Scottish Government and vaccine passports

Scotland is set to introduce vaccine passports from 1 October 2021 for certain settings, including nightclubs; the Scottish government has outlined the criteria by which they will define nightclubs for vaccine passport use, and introduced a ‘grace period’.

People going to nightclubs and many other large events will need proof they have had two doses of the vaccine.  If all four of the following criteria are met by a business, it will be considered a nightclub and will therefore be required to ask for proof of vaccination:

  • open between midnight and 5am
  • serves alcohol after midnight
  • provides live or recorded music for dancing
  • has a designated space – which is actually in use – for dancing.

However Scotland’s new vaccine passport system will not be enforced until more than two weeks after it is introduced. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced there will now be a ‘grace period’ until 18 October.  Read more here.
