VisitEngland commissioned a weekly tracking survey to understand domestic intent to take short breaks and holidays, with particular focus around the current barriers and concerns around travel and how these will evolve over time.

Results from week 7 show caravanning and camping remain potentially the most popular type of accommodation in the summer. Perceptions of whether the worst has passed and when things will return to normal show optimism is not growing (p7 and 8), although people’s appetite for risk and confidence in their ability to take a short break is increasing (p9 and 10).

Insights into conditions essential for people to stay in accommodation this summer show steps to reduce cross-contamination, ensuring social distancing and booking incentives (69%) are the biggest reassurances the public need when planning a stay in paid-for accommodation (p22).
