DCMS calls for evidence on summer demand

To better understand the state of the tourism sector recovery, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has asked businesses for information on demand in each sector (bookings, revenue etc) and what factors are holding back recovery.  This could e.g. be rising costs impacting expenditure, supply chain issues or staff shortages restricting capacity.

Deadline: DCMS requires the information by 5 August 2022, so please send your responses policy@thencc.org.uk by 3 August so that replies can be collated and subsequently passed to government.

NCC lobby – holiday parks industry

The UK holiday parks industry and its entire supply chain – manufacturers, distributors, suppliers and service providers – have acted responsibly during the lockdown.

Now the parks industry, and the supply chain upon which it relies, are on their knees.  Despatches of holiday caravans and leisure vehicles could be decimated in 2020 if parks and dealerships are not allowed to open.

The industry needs to work together to ensure messages get to MPs and politicians as soon as possible.  If not, 20,000 jobs could be at risk – read the NCC’s letter to the Minister here.

There is a great future for caravan holidays, as staycationing will never be more appealing. Caravan parks are large open spaces with generous separation distances between caravans, making them self-contained and safer. We need to get this message out as widely as possible.

Government help is needed urgently, and this is how you can help.  First, contact your MP TODAY.  It is really important that your local MP is aware of the issues plaguing the holiday parks industry – follow the steps below:

1. Look up the email address of your local MP/AM/MSP/MLA using your postcode here for Westminster; here for Wales; here for Scotland and here for Northern Ireland.

2. Use the text from this template email to draft the content.

3. Please make sure that you include information about you and your business, and the impact the current crisis is having so they understand this from a local constituency viewpoint.

4. Attach this Caravan industry in crisis document and this holiday caravan/lodges economic summary document.

5. Attach this infographic showing how this is important to local jobs and tourism.

6. Send the email to your MP and copy in policy@thencc.org.uk and send a short tweet to you MP and copy us in #nccltd

We are stronger together.
