From 1 July 2021 EEA citizens and their families require immigration status in the UK.  Employers simply checking passports or national identity cards of EEA citizens employed to confirm their status will no longer be acceptable.  EEA citizens will be required to provide evidence of lawful immigration status in the UK, in the same way as other foreign nationals.  If you do not have the relevant approvals in place you may be fined for employing illegal workers.

EU Settlement Scheme still open for certain applicants

• Although the EU Settlement Scheme has closed, there is still the ability for some people to apply if either:
• they have a later deadline – for example, they’re joining a family member in the UK who was living in the UK by 31 December 2020
• they have ‘reasonable grounds’ for being unable to apply by 30 June 2021 – for example, they had an illness or were the victim of domestic abuse
• they already have pre-settled status, and they’re applying for settled status.
