New restrictions for Northern Ireland come into force after Christmas

Stormont ministers have decided that from 27 December hospitality venues in Northern Ireland must only offer table service and no more than six people will be allowed to sit together at a table.

Nightclubs will close from 06:00 GMT on 26 December, there will be a ban on dancing and face masks must be worn in certain settings.  Some business groups have said the rules will cost money and jobs, with Hospitality Ulster calling the lack of detail around financial support “contemptible”.

The Stormont executive imposed restrictions in an attempt to stem the rise in the number of coronavirus cases.

Subsequently, the NI Executive has put aside £40m to support pubs, bars, nightclubs and restaurants in the region.
