In his statement to the House of Commons on 22 February, Prime Minister Boris Johnson set out the government roadmap that outlines how lockdown restrictions will be eased in England.
The key date for our industry is that from 12 April (no earlier) domestic overnight stays of one household only may be allowed in self-contained accommodation, and non-essential retail may open. However, this date will only be confirmed seven days in advance. Although parks and retail remain closed for Easter, self-contained accommodation has now been allowed to open before hotels – something the NCC had lobbied for.
From 17 May all remaining accommodation reopens for domestic overnight stays. Some large events will also be permitted subject to capacity limitations.
The roadmap is in four steps. Before proceeding to the next step, the Government will examine the data to assess the impact of previous steps. Further details of business support will be contained in the Chancellor’s budget on 3 March.
